These surveys represent a snapshot in time and a broad brushstroke across the London Legal Market and range of firms indicated. We recognise that the grouping together of firms into particular classes will mean that fairly wide salary bandings are inevitable. We are happy to provide bespoke salary guidance to our clients whenever required. The recent changes to the taxation position of fixed share partners are unlikely to cause a significant alteration to the bandings provided but again at this level bespoke advice is often more valuable than general guidance and we are very happy to discuss individual compensation levels with our clients at any time. Legal recruitment in the London market is not a precise science and individual compensation will vary.
The Lateral Partner market seems to be gaining momentum. Activity levels are high in Energy, Banking and Finance (including Structured Finance), Funds and PE are seeing some real strength and Real Estate has returned with a vengeance. Litigation and Arbitration seem to be maintaining the relatively high levels of interest and success they have enjoyed for the last few years. Pleasingly areas of corporate support such as Tax, Pensions and Employment are mirroring the growth in the Corporate Finance and Corporate M & A.
The phrase “Value Added” originated in the grocery sector when supermarkets realised that if they chopped our lettuce and tomato etc. for us we would pay much more for the resultant product than we would for the individual ingredients of a salad. “Value Added” refers to "extra" features of an item of interest (product, service, person etc.) that goes beyond the standard expectations and provides something "more" while adding little or nothing to its cost. In Legal Recruitment added value often comes in the form of extensive market and legal sector knowledge and experience.
